Dragonback
Overview
While looking through M.A.I.L. for new weaves, I came across Dragonback by Fenrir. This weave combines European 4-in-1 and Half Persian 3-in-1 and is a member of the European and Persian families. While making it, I found this tutorial from Phong incredibly helpful. If you want to make it yourself, I recommend that tutorial.
Materials
For the sample piece showcased in this post, I made the rings myself. I used 16 SWG Bright Aluminum wire from The Ring Lord coiled around a 8mm mandrel (for an approximate ID of 8mm) for an AR of 4.9.
Notes
The Dragonback weave is not very tricky to understand, though it does require attention to detail, and it is fairly easy to make. I find the weave can look nice when carefully positioned, but it tends not to hold that arrangement and often looks a bit messy. As a band weave, it is well-suited for bracelets and strapping, though care is needed since the dual-layer construction makes it somewhat stiff; with a thin enough item, it may also be possible to fit something between the layers to cover something else. This weave is similar to Persian Dragonscale in that both combine Half Persian 3-in-1 and European 4-in-1, but they differ in how the Half Persian chains are connected. While the Dragonback weave has only moderate aesthetic appeal, its ease of learning and practical uses make it worth learning.
