Overview

A few days ago, I was browsing M.A.I.L. for new weaves to make when I found Horse Feathers by Corvus. This weave is a simple extension of Half Persian 3-in-1 and a member of the Persian weave family. Corvus also wrote this helpful tutorial for the weave; however, it assumes you already know how to make Half Persian 3-in-1. If you don’t, I recommend this tutorial by Simon Livingston.

Materials

For the sample piece showcased in this post, I made the rings myself. I used 16 SWG Bright Aluminum wire from The Ring Lord coiled around an 8mm mandrel (for an approximate ID of 8mm) for an AR of 4.9.

Notes

The weave is fairly simple to understand and create. However, you should pay attention to the placement of the ‘feather’ rings in relation to the Half Persian 3-in-1 chain. When the placement of the ‘feather’ rings is consistent, the weave looks good; when they aren’t, it looks messy. As a chain weave with a flat side, it works well for bracelets, necklaces, and chokers, though the somewhat spiky opposite side makes it less suitable for use as a cord. If you like the spiky look and want to enhance it, I would modify the weave by skipping every other ‘feather’ ring so each one stands out more. While making the weave, I recommend waiting until you are happy with the length of the weave before adding ‘feathers’ to the edges. I suggest this since it is harder to extend the Half Persian 3-in-1 core with the ‘feather’ ring in the way. You can see this in the In Process photos below. Overall, this weave is easy to learn/make, looks good, and has a fun name, so I recommend giving it a try.
