Overview

While browsing M.A.I.L., I found Minerva by LupusSux, who created it while trying to make Byzee Beez To Butterflies. This cool weave is a member of the European weave family and is a relative of the Byzantine weave, a personal favourite of mine. I followed this tutorial by ZiLi, and recommend using it if you want to make this weave.

Materials

For the sample piece showcased in this post, I made the rings myself. I used 16 SWG Bright Aluminum wire from The Ring Lord coiled around an 8mm mandrel (for an approximate ID of 8mm) for an AR of 4.9.

Notes

The weave is somewhat complex to understand, but fairly simple to make once you grasp it. I find it has great aesthetic appeal. This may be due to the visual similarity of the unit joints to those of Byzantine. As a chain weave with a square cross-section, it works well for bracelets, chokers, longer necklaces, or cords. Balancing its strong visual appeal against the challenge of learning it, I recommend this weave to maillers who have a moderate amount of experience or plenty of time to practice.
