Camelot
Overview
I found Camelot on M.A.I.L., submitted by PrairieGal, while looking for new weaves to try. This variant of Celtic Visions is a member of the European, Japanese, and Helm weave families. If you want to make it yourself, I recommend this tutorial by Phong.
Materials
For the sample piece showcased in this post, I used two sizes of rings made by hand from 16 SWG Bright Aluminum wire purchased from The Ring Lord. The smaller rings have an ID of 5mm for an AR of 3.1. The larger rings have an ID of 10mm for an AR of 6.15.
Notes
The Camelot weave is fairly easy to understand and not difficult to create, although it requires a large number of rings: 20 for the first unit and 18 for each additional unit. I find this weave very aesthetically pleasing. As a band weave, it works well for bracelets, chokers, and strapping; however, it is a bit stiff and cannot comfortably bend around areas with a radius smaller than about 1.3 inches (3.3 cm). You may be able to improve flexibility by experimenting with different ring sizes. While the weave has a pleasing appearance, its stiffness and high ring usage make it hard to recommend unless you really like how it looks and don’t need it to be very flexible.
