Thunderbolt
Overview
I stumbled upon Thunderbolt by Maille_Man while searching M.A.I.L. for new weaves to make. This weave from the Japanese family is a series of 2-ring pairs held together by orbital connections. This tutorial by Tesserex is great if you want to try it yourself.
Materials
For the sample piece showcased in this post, I made the rings myself. I used 16 SWG Bright Aluminum wire from The Ring Lord coiled around a 10mm mandrel (for an approximate ID of 10mm) for an AR of 6.15.
Notes
The Thunderbolt weave is quite simple to understand and create. I find it looks quite nice, though the jagged center line doesn’t show as clearly until there are about 9 or so orbital connections. As a rectangular chain weave with fairly large sides, it can be used for bracelets or chokers, though it will be quite thick. Additionally, since it relies on orbital connections, I would only use it as a decorative strap without much tension. While unconfirmed, I suspect the name comes from its jagged, lightning-like appearance. I recommend learning this weave due to the ease of learning and making this weave, along with its strong visual appeal.
