Mars
Overview
While searching M.A.I.L. for interesting weaves, I found Mars by ZiLi. This member of the European, Persian and Helm families is a combination of the Sweetpea and Harvest Moon weaves. If you want to try making this at home, I recommend this tutorial by ZiLi.
Materials
For the sample piece showcased in this post, I made the rings myself. I used 16 SWG Bright Aluminum wire from The Ring Lord coiled around an 8mm mandrel (for an approximate ID of 8mm) for an AR of 4.9.
Notes
The Mars weave can be a bit tricky to understand, though it is mostly simple to make, aside from the sandwiched rings, which can be difficult to add. I find that it looks messy unless kept under tension, such as when held vertically. As a chain weave with a somewhat square cross-section, it is well-suited for bracelets, long necklaces, or cord. Balancing the learning curve, the need for tension to achieve aesthetic appeal, and its possible uses, I would say this weave is worth learning, though not a high priority.
