Byzee Wench
Overview
While watching tutorials on YouTube, I came across this Byzee Wench Tutorial by Aussie Maille and decided to make it myself. This member of the European weave family is a fun variant of the Byzantine weave. Unfortunately, I am unable to say who first documented the weave, as I have not been able to find it on M.A.I.L. or the Chainmailers Forum.
Materials
The rings used for the sample piece shown in this post are 16 SWG with a 1/4” ID for an AR of 4.03 made of Bright Aluminum that I bought from the Ring Lord.
Notes
The Byzee Wench weave is fairly easy to understand and quite easy to make. I find it aesthetically pleasing, with its central line and protrusions giving it a distinctive look. As a chain weave, it works well for bracelets or loose necklaces, and the protrusions make it especially useful for attaching other items. The protrusions make it a strong starting point for charm bracelets or as a foundation for more complex projects. Since it is simple to learn, visually appealing, and versatile, I recommend learning to make this weave.
