Overview

While searching for a new weave to try, I came across Orbital Vipera Berus Lace on M.A.I.L. attributed to Minigal. This member of the European family is an Orbital Vipera Berus variant with the orbiting rings locked in a zig-zag pattern. To make it yourself, I recommend this tutorial by AussieMaille.

Materials

For the sample piece showcased in this post, I used two sizes of rings made from 16 SWG Bright Aluminum wire. The smaller rings have an ID of .25in for an AR of 4, purchased from The Ring Lord. The larger rings, which I made myself, have an ID of 10mm for an AR of 6.15.

Notes

Orbital Vipera Berus Lace is a bit tricky, but not too hard to understand and not too difficult to make. However, starting it can be tricky because the weave is unstable until a few units are in place. In my opinion, the weave has a somewhat nice appearance. With its rectangular and notably flat cross-section, it is well suited for use in bracelets, chokers, and strapping. Given its ease of learning and construction, practical use cases, and moderate aesthetic appeal, it’s worth adding to your repertoire, though it may take a backseat to other weaves if you find others that appeal to you more.
