Overview

While rifling through M.A.I.L. for new weaves to try out, I came across Shenanigans by Grace. Shenanigans is a member of the European and Helm weave families. It is another variant of Dragonscale, being just a single Dragonscale row. I recommend this tutorial, which was also written by Grace, for those who wish to follow along at home.

Materials

For the sample piece showcased in this post, I used two sizes of rings made from 16 SWG Bright Aluminum wire. The larger rings, which I made myself, have an ID of 10mm for an AR of 6.15. The smaller rings have an ID of .25in for an AR of 4, purchased from The Ring Lord.

Notes

Shenanigans is a chain weave that is not too complex to understand and not very difficult to create. However, the beginning can be tricky due to its initial instability and the need to close rings while keeping the weave in place. Visually, it looks incredible and has a flat, wide cross-section that makes wonderful bracelets, chokers, and strapping. The ends of the weave can be somewhat unstable, as they are not naturally locked in place, but you could address it in several ways. As shown in the referenced tutorial, you can stabilize the ends with extra rings or shape them into a point for attaching other elements. It should also be possible to join the weave to itself to create a seamless loop if you play around with it. Interestingly, the weave is named after the restaurant Shenanigans from the movie Office Space, as noted by Grace on the M.A.I.L. page. Overall, I recommend learning this weave; it looks great, has versatile applications, and its creation is reasonably approachable.
